It is no coincidence that the outstanding Lambourn gallops, fully maintained by the Jockey Club, have produced Group 1 winners of this year’s Coronation Cup, King’s Stand and the first, second and third in the July Cup.
We have 76 licensed boxes split between a barn with 11 stables, 43 individual stables and a separate 12 stable isolation yard where all new arrivals can settle in before being integrated into the main yard.
Newlands has been an incredibly successful yard for Kim Brassey, Brian Meehan and Brendan Powell who all trained major winners on the flat and over jumps. Brian Meehan trained a staggering 8 individual Group 1 winners from the yard before his move to Manton.
Our 1 furlong oval gallop is perfect for settling keen horses, for giving young horses experience and for warming horses up before they go out onto the gallops.
We also have a 6 bay Claydon Walker, an equine treadmill, weighing scales, starting stalls, 2 lunging & turnout pens, grass paddock, massage rug, nebuliser, thermal imaging camera and a brand new 2 stall Overlander horse box.
With full access to over 550 acres of training grounds on our doorstep, including 8 miles of turf gallops and 7 miles of artificial gallops we can provide your horse with varied and enjoyable bespoke training program.
We believe it is essential to give each horse as much time out of its box as possible by hacking to and from the gallops, lunging, using the treadmill and regular turnout to keep them in peak physical and mental condition.
In addition to monitoring stride lengths, stride frequencies, maximum heart rates and recovery rates, the daily reports also detail how long your horse has spent being ridden. Even short pieces of work take around 35 minutes, interval training using more than one gallop around 55 minutes and we regularly take horses for hacks through the village, through the woodland and on the many miles of tracks to give them a physical and mental break from training.
On numerous occasions this method of monitoring training has identified injuries, wind issues and minor viral infections during their very early stages which allows us to treat issues with minimum disruption to training to maintain fitness and increase consistency of performance in races.
